Five Cheese Spicy Crab Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 large loaf of Sourdough bread (about 10 inches x 5 inches)

  • 1/4 cup butter, room temperature

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise

  • 1 tablespoon sour cream

  • 1/4 teaspoon minced garlic

  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

  • 1/3 cup chopped green onions

  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 8 ounce package, store bought shredded Mexican style 4 cheese blend

  • 6 ounces of fully cooked Dungeness crab meat

Directions:

1. Preheat oven 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

2. Using a serrated knife, cut the loaf of bread in half, lengthwise, so you have two equal pieces. Scoop out and remove about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the bread in the center to almost the edges of each piece.

3. The butter needs to be very soft, but not melted. If needed, add butter to a small microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for 10 seconds at a time until softened. Let butter cool for a few minutes afterward.

4. Using a large bowl, combine butter, mayonnaise, sour cream, minced garlic, red pepper flakes and green onions. Add Mozzarella and Mexican cheese blend to mixture and stir until combined. Gentle stir in the crab meat until combined.

5. Place the bread halves onto the prepared baking sheet. Using a large spoon, spread the crab cheese mixture equally onto the bread. Bake for 25-28 minutes or until the cheese is melted and slightly browned. Remove from oven to a wire rack to cool. Let cool for 5-8 minutes and then slice with a serrated knife into individual pieces.

Notes: Baking time is based on already baked loaf of Sourdough bread (which is very durable). If you use a different type of bread loaf, such as French bread, bake for 14-22 minutes or until cheese is melted. Just make sure bread does not get over done by getting too crispy or burnt.

You can use regular sliced bread on a baking sheet. Bake 375 degrees F. 8-12 minutes.

Also goes great on a baked potato or cooked hash browns. Bake on oven proof plate, 375 degrees F. 8-10 minutes.
